「変化するイギリス」“How　is　Britain　changing?” ( The 26^th of November, 2016)

The Seminar:  “Let’s learn about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”

Speaker: Mr. Simon Clay, Professor of Kaetsu University

Commentator: Mr. Alexander Ogilvie

A:  期待通りの会でした。 (The seminar went very well, as I expected.)

B: サイモン先生の通訳が素晴らしかった。 (Mr. Clay’s Japanese interpretation was great.)

C: EU離脱関連のお話が多かった。(The speakers mainly talked about the UK’s Brexit from the EU.)

D: サイモン先生の英語が分かりやすかった。( Mr. Clay’s English was very easy to understand.)

E:  わかりやすく、ＥＵからの離脱について、お話しいただき、現在の英国が分かりました。わかりやすい英語で良い勉強になりました。サイモン先生、素晴らしいです。また、このような機会があれば、ぜひ、また参加したいです。このような意見が多かったです。( I understood the present situation of the UK very well because the way Mr. Clay explained was well organized.  His English was also easy to understand, and it was a good chance to study about the UK.  Mr. Clay is a wonderful speaker. I hope that I can attend this kind of seminar again if you plan in the future.)   [ Most of the audience said that.]

F: 興味深いお話しでした。特にＥＵと昔の大英帝国のプライドとの複雑な関係が分かりました。(The lecture was very interesting. The relationship between the EU and the UK is very complicated because the pride of the British Empire from the old days still exists.)

Ｆ：　イギリスの階級（労働者階級、中流階級、上流階級）のお話しが面白かった。なんとなくは聞いていましたが、まさか、こんなに、階級間の溝が深いとは思いませんでした。ありがとうございます。(The speech about the class systems in the UK was very interesting. I have heard about the class systems in the UK before, but I did not expect that the gaps between the working class, middle class and upper class would still be so distinctive.)

G：　サイモン先生の日本語が堪能なので、話の内容がよくわかりました。二人の英国人のコンビネーションが素晴らしかった。(Because Mr. Clay’s Japanese is very good I understood the lecture very well.  The British men’s tag was great.)

H: 明瞭なイギリス英語、心地よかった。(It was comfortable to listen to the clear British English.)

I:  私は日本語しかわからないので、もっと、丁寧に通訳してほしかった。 （I understand only Japanese, so I wish more detailed interpretation could have been given.)

Ｊ：　とても、なごやかな雰囲気でよかった。ＥＵについてよくわかった。個人的には、イギリスのエリザベス女王が素晴らしいと思っています。(The seminar had a good atmosphere and I learned a lot about the EU.  I personally admire the Queen Elizabeth.)

K:  ロンドンの市長にイスラム系の方が選挙で選ばれたが、そのことに関して、アレックス先生は「ロンドン市民が人種・宗教の偏見なしに純粋に人物で選んだことを、誇りに思う。」との意見でした。　とても、ﾌｪｱだなと思いました。(The mayor of London is a Muslim man.  Alex said that he is proud of the Londoners who chose the Mayor without regard religion and race. I thought that Alex has a fair opinion.)
